Seventeenth-Century Tavern

Pool Side Entrance of the Sixteenth Century Tavern

Stone walls and wooden beams

The Seventeenth-Century Tavern of Tenute di Badia is located on the ground floor of the “Torretta“, the oldest and most distinctive building of the Farm Estate. The Tavern, as well as the rest of the building, was the originally part of the Refectory and Cellar of the Abbey of Badia Pozzeveri, built by the Camaldolese Monks in the late XVII Century. Years went by, the Monks moved back to Rome and the Farm of Badia Pozzeveri passed property to an upper class family from Lucca . The entire Villa underwent two different widening works, in the late XVIII Century and in the beginning of the XX, by a family of Lucca’s upper class.

Rustic Setting for Short Meals and Guided Tastings

The most recent activity dates back to 2001, by the Romani Family, upon the opening of the Farm Resort. In that case, the primary concern was not getting larger of giving the place a new look. At the countrary, it was deemed essential to keep the ancient, majestic beauty of the four-houndred-years old room. As a consequence, the Tavern underwent a conservative restoration: stone walls, brick arches and part of the original wooden beams holding the ceiling were carefully put safe and left in plain view, while modern comforts were added and the overall thermal efficiency of the environment was improved.

Forks, knives, glasses

Today, the Tavern and the adjacent Kitchen are an integrating part of the Resort, hosting most of the Food&Wine related Activities, organized and operated by the Family.
