the Family

Tenute di Badia is a Winery, Farm-Holiday Estate and Rustic Restaurant located in the Province of Lucca, in Tuscany, belonging to the Romani family since 40 years.

In the month of February of 1980, Argante Romani, born in 1929, took the property of the Farm together with his two brothers. The property covered a total 174 hectares of land, comprising vineyards, old buildings and woods.
To him, buying a Farm was not an en entrepreneurship choice, but a step back to reconcile with his origins.

In fact, Argante and his brothers were born and raised in a farm themselves, but with after the devastation of the Second World War, he decided to make a fresh start away from the country side, in the quickly developing town of Montecatini Terme.

Like many others young men in the Italian post-war era, he couldn’t see any opportunity from the humble soil work, and realized that if he wanted to take care of his two younger brothers and widow mother, he need to move away.

After trying some saltuary jobs, he founded a shoe factory in the nearby town of Monsummano Terme, and specialized in woven leather fashion. The whole Italian developed greatly during the ’60s and the ’70s, and Romani Brothers’ Shoe Factory made no exception.
